Chips In! The Everest @Royalrandwick #14/10/2017

Usually I would be talking about the time honoured Caulfield Guineas, in fact this time last year I was lucky enough to be in mounting yard as an owner for Kaching and First Light Racing for the great stallion making race. However, this year it’s all about the world’s richest turf race, The $10 million dollar #tab #everest. It is a shame this race was targeted for this weekend on the racing calendar as personally outside of Flemington’s Derby Day I believe Caulfield Guineas Day is our number 1 race day. Instead there will be intrigue, anticipation, lots of plunges, and all eyes on Royal Randwick this Saturday. The crowd figure in Sydney will be interesting as usually the Sydney Carnival has come and gone, with most trainers and owners chasing the sun in Victoria. The best carnivals in the world are about to start down south with 2 cups and a plate up for grabs. Not sure how the rest of the Everest meeting stacks up but it doesn’t have to really when there is a $10 million dollar race! How about Winx last week? She is #travelling…..3 cox plates looks a certainty before taking on the world. Could have paid for a holiday with $50 a week on her from the end of her autumn preparation. Can anything stand up in the meantime and stamp themselves as a danger? Maybe a 3 year old will make a bold statement in The Guineas #catchy #royalsymphony. Either way we will be watching, investing, and enjoy the weekend as the spring heats up. Nothing beats spring #chasethesun

The Everest (Group 1)

The freaky She Will Reign will start favourite after a dominate win in The Group 1 Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley on Grand Final Eve. Despite being a long way back around the valley she sprouted wings late and did something many previous Golden Slipper winners fail to do, win a Group 1 race as a 3 year old! 51kg is a gift, barrier 2 gives Corey Brown many options, and she is versatile. If the rain comes you know she can handle the soft to heavy range, and in my opinion this daughter of Manhattan Rain should be undefeated. There will be pace up front with Houtzen, Redzel, and Redkirk Warrior, if she can sit just off the speed battle she is the one to beat. She is a sectional star once she is fully wound up, and despite the champion field I think $5 is generous. Chips In!

The forgotten 3 year old Houtzen is at a stupid price after a gutsy win at the valley last start. Despite being able to run similar times to She Will Reign she has opened up at $26. If you can forgive her first up run where she was ridden upside down and sat 3 wide with no cover her form prior is outstanding. With only 51kg on her back, if she can jump she will lead them a merry dance and give them something to chase. She already has two runs under her belt including one at 1200m, she should peak on Saturday, and she may look the winner at the top of the straight. She doesn’t want the rain to come, if it stays dry, and with a good start out of the barriers, she is a live chance. She represents an outstanding each way proposition.

Redkirk Warrior showed them a clean pair of heals first up at Flemington easing down over 1200m. His straight six form is superior and if he can bring it to Randwick he will be hard to toss. Giving the 3 year olds weight is an issue as is the possibility of a wet track, but he will still make his presence felt regardless. He has a massive turn of foot, he should get the right in transit from barrier 3, and the Hayes camp is flying. Big watch

Despite the tricky draw (10), Vega Magic will be there when the whips are cracking and will go close to starting favourite. His win in The Group 1 Memsie Stakes was top notch and if he reproduces the same turn of foot he will be hard to stop. He is unbeaten since joining the Hayes camp, and every start for his new trainer he has overcome bad luck in running or a wide trip to win. He doesn’t know how to run a bad race and he has already been well backed since the final field was confirmed. 58.5kg and a wide barrier probably won’t stop him. World class. Redzel will be prominent but I feel he is more suited to 1000m-1100m. I doubt he will get much rest up in front and I dare say this will be a genuinely ran 1200m. English can peak third up from a spell, while Chautauqua will have to be very good to run over this lot conceding weight and a start.
