Chips In! Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes @Thevalley #08/09/18

Group racing returns to Moonee Valley and hopefully at Chips In Racing we can continue our good form at the valley from a fortnight ago where we tipped the quaddie straight on Bar Tv #ponyboys. I hope the Chips In readers have enjoyed a live streaming and a more in-depth look at the quaddie legs in both Sydney and Melbourne, although we have heads like beaten favourites. Last week was again a winning week but would have been better if Vega Magic was racing over 1200m not 1400m and if Oohood wasn’t scared off winning. Again it will probably win third up by three lengths now that I am potting it but it simply didn’t want to win last week. Obviously stabled near Tom Melbourne or a milk bar #chasethesun #nothingbeatsspring

Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes (Group 2)

What a cracking Group 2 event that is traditionally a good form reference for some of the spring majors. Several different form lines meeting here in what looks a tricky affair. Hartnell was fantastic in The P B Lawrence at Caulfiled first up and he looks like he has returned in great order. Barrier 9 isn’t ideal but Craig Williams has a good association with him and he loves 1600m (9:3-3-0). He does run well second up (8:2-3-1), my only concern is if he is suited at the valley or not. Obvious pick, but the valley has undone the reputation of plenty top line horses over the years.

Night’s Watch was ultra impressive last week at Caulfield, and interestingly he was scratched from an event at the valley the previous week. I am a big fan of the horse and have tipped it successfully several times, I however think he needs a Caulfield, Flemington, or Sandown due to his racing pattern. If he can be close enough in the run I think he can/probably win, I just don’t think he will be. The job maybe out of reach.

Bonneval had a breakthrough 2017 including a win in The Group 1 ATC Oaks. She has been off the scene since last years Caulfield Cup but she does race well fresh (3:2-0-0). I’d prefer to see her have a run but how do you pot a mare who is building an impressive racing record (12:7-0-1), that’s won at the track, and over the distance. Can win. Homesman and Odeon the interesting runners.

Selections: Hartnell (1) – Bonneval (9) – Homesman (6) – Night’s Watch (7)
