Chips In! Grand Final/Long Weekend #October2017

Well well well well what do we have here?!?! Grand Final weekend never disappoints on the field, and it certainly doesn't disappoint off the field either with a mountain of mouth-watering Group 1 races spanned over 3 days. We start Friday night at Moonee Valley with The Group 1 Moir Stakes, it is a cracking field, and a brilliant meeting supported by The JRA Cup, Bill Stutts Stakes, and Stocks Stakes. Super Saturday at Randwick is nearly wall to wall Group racing with the time honoured Epsom Handicap the feature event supported by The Flight Stakes and The Metropolitan. If you still have a pulse on Sunday, Caulfield has some spring starts lining up in The Group 1 Underwood Stakes and Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, not to mention the 3 year olds battling it out in the Guineas Preludes. Where do we start? Knock off early Friday afternoon and head to the valley, Saturday nestle into the pub for The AFL Grand Final and Super Saturday, Sunday repeat Saturday but replace AFL with NRL and Super Saturday with Guineas Prelude day. Its a hard gig but someone's got to do it!!! #nothingbeatsspring #chasethesun Read more [...]

Chips In! De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose @Rosehill #23/09/17

Racing action returns to Rosehill this weekend with the running of The Group 1 De Bortoli Wines Golden Rose for the 3 year olds. The 1400m event shapes to be a beauty with the inform Menari looking to make it a hatrick of wins despite an awkward barrier draw. The rest of the card promises a day of quality and value with several other Group 2 and Group 3 events. Racing down south heads to 'The Peoples Heath' with several races shaping as good form guides for The Caulfield Cup carnival. Get the pen and note pad out, smash the piggy bank, borrow a lobster, and just push the chips in. Nothing beats spring #chasethesun Read more [...]

Chips In! The Makybe Diva Stakes @Flemington #16/09/17

The Makybe Diva Stakes, a race named after one of the all-time greats. Three Melbourne Cups, a ridiculous Cox Plate win, a remarkable BMW win, and even a Memsie for good value. The first horse of the modern era to be compared to Phar Lap and still our highest earner on the track, a ridiculous $14,526,690. Very appropriate then this race is at the Group 1 level, there is $750,000 on offer, and it has drawn a quality field for the 2017 edition. When the legendary Greg Miles shouted “Here comes Makybediva, a nation roars for a hero” it was if we had won a world war. Hats were being thrown, strangers were hugging, and genuine tears of joy were on display. One of the best days of my life with my twin brother #nothingbeatsspring #chasethesun Read more [...]

Chips In! Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes @Thevalley #9/09/17

An intriguing $250,000 edition of The Dato' Tan Chin Nam Stakes awaits us this Saturday at Moonee Valley. The Group 2 event over 1600m is a traditional lead up to the Peoples Cox Plate and is usually a great form guide or reference leading into the Spring majors. With 5 of the 11 runners resuming it is an interesting field on paper and a tricky affair at that. Personally I think there is only a couple of horses that will be forward enough to win this, while the rest will be running on late and hitting the line strong. If you can come away from this meeting with 3 or 4 horses to follow during the spring you will be ahead of most punters. Spring is here, footy finals are here, I am now a premiership winning captain #nothingbeatsspring #chasethesun Read more [...]

Chips In! Nz Bloodstock Memsie Stakes @Caulfield #2/09/17

The million dollar Memsie kicks off the spring carnival this week and what a great Group 1 to start the new racing season with. An all-star cast line up here over 1400m in a chance to taste early spring success with some having a red hot crack while others using it as a platform into the spring majors i.e. The two cups and a plate. With only 3 first up runners it is an unusual Memsie with most years the majority of the runners are resuming after a long autumn and or winter campaign. Read more [...]

Chips In! San Domenico Stakes @Rosehill #26/08/2017

The racing heats up in Sydney this weekend with the running of the Tpg Telecom San Domenico Stakes at Rosehill Gardens. The Group 3 event worth $150,000 sees the return of the some talented horses who raced at the elite level as 2 year olds. Racing in Victoria heads to the Valley for a bumper meeting with the build up to spring gaining momentum. We will be singing horses before you know it! Each week an ‘’A’’ Grader returns from a spell and this tells us two things 1) The spring riches are nearly here and 2) Start getting your suits dry cleaned for the carnival. Chips In Racing has had a stellar year in 2017 and we are hoping it will continue as we head into the peoples season. We took an all up last weekend before the feature races and got $28 about Hartnell to win The Caulfield Cup and Winx to win the Cox Plate. It looks overs now! #chipsin Read more [...]

Chips In! Bob Ingham Warwick Stakes @Royalrandwick #19/08/17

Group racing returns to Randwick on Saturday for the running of the Group 2 Bob Ingham Warwick Stakes over 1400m. Only 8 acceptors have put their hooves in the air, and for as us punters and sports fans, we are excited that one of them is #winx! Yep the wonder mare is back fresh from her first ever barrier trial win, and I reckon the $1.10 quote that is floating around is overs. She should be able to account for this field, however she is up against some serious horses who are on their own individual pursuit of spring riches. A couple of Group 1 winners in the filed may push her buttons for some of the race but it really should be times and margins. Racing in Victoria sees a cracking field line up in The Group 2 PB Lawrence Stakes at ‘The Heath’ which will be a great form reference moving into the spring. Hartnell vs Black Heart Bart should get the punters from the couch to the track, while the rest of the meeting at Randwick and Caulfield are mouth-watering and offer plenty of value. Read more [...]

Chips In! Aurie’s Star Handicap @Flemington #12/08/17

Group 3 Racing returns to headquarters this Saturday in what promises to be a sensational day of racing. The cult hero Sir Sagamore heads home to Flemington looking to reignite his Winter/Spring preparation, while a couple of handy Group 1 horses shake off the cobwebs on route to Spring riches. The babies battle it out in the $150,000 Rosebud at Rosehill while most punters are still talking about the return performance of Lankan Rupee. He didn’t take out #version2 of the Bletchingly at Sandown but woweeeee what a run. You would be a brave man to tip against him second up #memsie. As the major carnivals edge closer it’s a good time to start looking at the future markets. The $1.80 that has been available most of the year for Winx to win her third consecutive Cox Plate is outstanding (now $1.50), Frances Of Assisi is a tempting $20 betting proposition in the race that stops the nation, and Royal Symphony to win the Caulfield Guineas at $6 looks genuine overs. You need money, patience, and more patience when betting on the long range multis. If you want a quick result get on 2 up or trackside #chasethesun Read more [...]

Chips In! Missile Stakes @Randwick #05/08/17

Group 2 racing returns to Sydney this weekend with the running of the Missile Stakes. A small but competitive field will scorch the turf chasing the $200,000 that is on offer. With several runners resuming this will be an intriguing affair i.e. is this a first up assignment? Do they need a run? Are other spring features on their radars? Either way this race oozes class with several proven Group 1 runners. Down south we are again in danger of losing our main meeting at Flemington due to high winds. Last week the Bletchingly meeting resembled a wind surfing convention with the re run now due this Sunday at Sandown. Supido was $3.40 favourite at Caulfield, but will bypass this weekend’s event in preference for another Caulfield feature. Speaking of bypass, how was my heart rate watching Kaching make his return to racing at Sale on Wednesday? Zest for racing is back, he savaged the line, and he looks like he is in for a good preparation. We still managed a couple of collects last weekend, let’s hope the momentum continues heading into the people’s season #nothingbeatsspring Read more [...]

Chips In! Bletchingly Stakes @Caulfield #29/07/17

What’s that smell? Is it spring? Or is it your money from all the winners you backed last weekend? Either way it’s a good time to be alive and if you are not on your toes for the return of Group racing this weekend, simply cut it off. We head to the peoples ‘’Heath” this weekend for the running of The Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes which sees the return of a former champion, one with plenty of upside, and many labelled with the dangerous p word #potential. Caulfield usually provides tricky 1200m events and I don’t think the Bletchingly will be any different. The rest of the meeting provides us with great value, big fields, and potentially a form guide moving forward into the spring. A shout out to the Bendigo Boys who filled their pockets on Chips In’s suggestions last weekend. There was that much baby corn in their Satay Chicken on Saturday night they thought they were farmers. Hopefully we can put on another #clinic this weekend #chasethesun Read more [...]
